As a designer, it's essential to find inspiration daily. However, that can be difficult when your surroundings never change. That being said, I like to schedule myself an adventure every now and then. Sometimes, a trip down the road a mile or two is all it takes to get the creative juices flowing and other times you need a more grand solution.
I recently was blessed with one of those aforementioned "grand" opportunities to travel to Seattle, Washington. The land of grey, grunge, flannel, and rain. I know what you're thinking, "What's a southern belle going to do with all that?" Well, here's how it went down.....
Seattle is VERY casual and of course I happened to be the most dressed up person in the restaurant. Wearing a short multi-colored long sleeve lace dress trimmed in black velvet. I have always found some comfort in being overdressed rather than under. However, as I crossed the street after dinner, a young female grunger who clearly did not follow that same mantra commented to her friend, "you can always tell the people who aren't from Seattle!" Yes, southerners can be spotted a mile away...it's our fabulous flare!
Saturday morning cooking class at "Serious Pie".
Night cap at "UNICORN." A fun little bar with a carnie/circus theme! It was also in the Macklemore "Thrift Shop" video.

All in all Seattle had a lot to offer (crazy good food) , and I really enjoyed seeing the Pacific Northwest for the first time. I'm very thankful however, that I did arrive while they were having unseasonably warmer weather (sometimes I even found that still too cold). I recommend if you're a hardcore southerner, try visiting during July and August. I was told that time of the year the weather feels amazing.
